[GO4GLOW]: July sheet mask shakedown: SKII, LuLuLun, JayJun, Leaders and L’Herboflore!

Processed with VSCO with f2 preset

Hi, I’m Jessica and I have a sheet mask addiction. Seriously. Can’t stop trying sheet masks, and can’t stop buying them either.

Sheet masks are key to anyone looking to get constantly glowy, translucent skin. Depending on your skincare routine and the type of mask you buy, you can use a richer mask 2 times a week, or even use a daily mask 7 days a week.

The problem is the sheer variety of sheet masks out there: promising to balance your skin, nourish your skin, firm your face, brighten your complexion, minimise your pores, get rid of acne, add hydration, and so on. It can be confusing and scary.

So, here are some sheet masks I’ve tried in July to help you along next time you’re choosing a sheet mask for your face:

1. SKII Facial Treatment Mask — Best ‘event’ mask for the craziest glow ever!

Product description:
A luxurious facial mask with an indulgent concentration of Pitera in a single application. Your skin is immediately and exceptionally immersed in moisturization (sic), resulting in a visibly radiant and crystal clear complexion.

Mask type: Thick-ish cotton mask soaked in watery essence

Fit: Good! Better than most. The essence is watery, but not so watery that it was constantly dripping off my face and into my eyes.

When I peeled this mask off my face, I said “Oh my god!” out loud. The brightness this mask brought to my skin was insane. I didn’t think my face was capable of such translucency and glow. The ‘residue’ left behind by this mask is not oily, and absorbs into the skin easily.

The Pitera essence is also incredibly soothing, so the mask also helps to reduce irritation/ redness. Would be a good mask to use after exfoliation, or for irritated skin in general.

The best part of using this mask is that the glow and brightness lasts for at least 3 days afterward. I’ve seriously never had this level of success with any other mask before.

Glow tip:
Because there’s an insane amount of essence in each mask pack, you can keep the essence in the pack to apply on your face (during your essence step) for the following 2-3 days.

Suggested frequency of use: Once a week. Use another one of your favourite masks 1-2 times a week together with this.

Suitable for: All skin types! Especially if you have dull skin, and especially suitable as a ‘night before event’ mask.

Price: OK. This mask ain’t cheap, but I think it’s really worth it. You can find it at SKII counters at $189 for 10 pieces. You can also keep a look out on Shopee for flash deals — I’ve gotten this mask for as cheap as $5/piece during a flash sale.

Final rating: 5/5 (total HG!)

2. LuLuLun Aroma Oil Mask (Rose) — Hydrating and nourishing!

This is a new range from Japan’s best-selling LuLuLun brand, under the “LuLuLun Plus” series. This range includes other featured ingredients, such as clary sage, lavender, yuzu, and lemongrass, to treat a range of skin concerns.

I chose the rose version for my dry skin.

Product description:
LULULUN AROMA OIL Mask Rose is a three-layer mille-feuille sheet mask with anti-aging benefit. Damask rose essential oils from Bulgarian provides an elegant and relaxing sensation, while tightening skin. Infused with active ingredient Vitamin C from rose hips extract and herbal extract from angelica root for restoring the skin and achieving a brighter, more revitalized complexion. The 3-layer mille-feuille texture mask contains 30ml luxurious light weight essence, it melts into skin smoothly for intensive penetration of the active ingredients. Skin is moisturized and fresher.

Mask type: Thick oil essence on cotton mask.

Fit: Slightly big, with the eye holes cut a little small.

Despite the less than ideal fit, I really love this mask! I bought a box of 5, and I’m down to my last one. I find it one of the most moisturising and nourishing masks I’ve ever used. I brought one sheet to Hong Kong, and it was really effective in soothing my skin after a day of city dust and pollution (plus the heat wave there).

Because this is an oil essence, the essence left behind after the mask is quite thick. It takes a bit of extra patting to absorb into my skin, but it has a lovely brightening effect, and really works to hydrate tired and dull skin.

Glow tip:
This mask is totally soaked in essence, and that essence might drip into your eyes (which hurts). I like to tissue off the eye area a bit before putting this on. No problems after that!

Suggested frequency of use: Twice a week

Suitable for: Dry skin, dull skin, skin in need of a perk-me-up. If you are concerned that this mask is too rich for you, perhaps give the Lavender version a try.

Price: I bought this at BHG aLT at $18 for 5 pieces.

Final rating: 4.5/5

3. JayJun Multi-Vita Tone Up Mask — OK, just hydrating

Product description:
A mask pack that will turn your dull skin bright and glowing with ingredients such as Vitamin C, E, B3, B5, B6 and Provitamin.

Mask type: Jelly-like serum on cotton mask

I had really high hopes for this mask, because the ingredients list and cosDNA analysis looked so promising and clean. However, this mask made me skin get really red and flushed. The flushing went down after a while, but it was pretty alarming.

Final effect: There wasn’t much brightening with this mask, but it was pretty hydrating. Will I try it again? Probably not. It could be that the high amounts of vitamins in the mask clashed with my already full regime of vitamin serums, making it too intense for my skin.

Suggested frequency of use: Twice a week.

Not suitable for: Sensitive skin, and skin that already benefits from a full vitamin-rich regime.

Price: ~$15 for 10 pieces on Shopee.

Final rating: 2.5/5

4. L’Heroflore Sweety Tea Balancing Mask — To soothe breakouts

Screen Shot 2017-07-23 at 2.33.37 PM

Product description:
Black tea and yeast extract: a whitening essence extracted from multiple fermentation processes can brighten and rejuvenate skin and improve dullness. Horse chestnut & white willow extracts are two important purifying ingredients that can maintain the balance between oil and water of the skin to tighten, soften and refresh skin.

I liked this mask a lot! I used it when my skin had a slight breakout along the jawline (still purging from my intense but rapturous P50 decision). It worked to soothe my irritated skin, reduce inflammation, and brighten my complexion up nicely.

Glow tip: I’m a big fan of L’Herboflore masks, and this one didn’t disappoint. If you’re looking to try out this brand, check out the Lychee Translucent Mask and the Mango Revitalising ones too.

Suggested frequency of use: 2-3 times a week.

Suitable for: Oily skin, combination skin, sensitive skin. Note that this product contains alcohol, so don’t use if you’re sensitive to it!

Price: You can get this pretty cheaply on Shopee for ~$2 a piece. US readers, check it out on Beautibi (where you can get a lot of really cool brands of masks too)! When it comes to L’Herboflore, don’t just stop at one type — I suggest you check out their different ranges.

Final rating: 4/5

5. Leaders Insolution Mela-Tox Skin Clinic Mask — Not really brightening, but hydrating enough

Product description:
This wrinkle-filling mask helps reduce the appearance of fine lines around the eyes, forehead, and mouth with a concentrated dose of peptides. By increasing collagen production, it helps you achieve a firmer, more resilient, and younger-looking complexion.

I don’t know if it’s just me, but every single Leaders mask I’ve used has led to a breakout. And this mask was no exception — I found it disappointing in terms of brightening and firming. Yes, it is hydrating, but all masks are. I also noticed no lasting effects of this mask; my skin looked exactly the same the next day (except with the addition of a mild breakout).

Glow tip: However, you might not want to take my word on it for this one — Leaders is a really popular brand, because of its low price point and formulations that exclude silicones, mineral oils, and parabens.

Suggested frequency of use: 2-3 times a week.

Suitable for: By right, all skin types.

Price: You can find this for $4 a piece on Sephora.sg; Again, keep a look out on Shopee for sales, where you can get a mask for as low as $1.

Final rating: 2/5

Hope this July sheet mask shakedown helps when you’re trying to decide what mask to buy next. Until then, keep glowing!
